Well, well...

iPod Firmware 2.0

Well, here I am still...
The picture above is not a fake.
It's not even a major breakthru but it's something.
I am glad to tell you anyhow that 2.0
firmware works pretty well on my iPod 32gb.
All features are enabled.
To install it from windows (or mac) you need
a special beta version of itunes.
Unless you want to loose installer
and all third party apps I strongly suggest you
NOT TO UPGRADE (both iPod both iPhone).
To downgrade the iPod you will need
to uninstall iTunes 7.7 and reinstall 7.5.
Then you will need to put the iPod in DFU mode
and do a full restore back to 1.1.4 (and use ZiPhone)
to have back Installer and all goodies.
With the iPhone it's more complicated
because you will also need to
downgrade the baseband.
I already have a very preliminary version
of the new ZiPhone which will allow that.

As of today you will have 2 choices:
1) Believe in the community and don't upgrade to 2.0
2) Say goodbye to Installer and freedom and upgrade.

    What's the point of Jailbreaking it if you can't put the installer on it. And it's good for downgrading the baseband.

    The New Ziphone that's coming out.

    They are taking extra steps to prevent unlock.

    God those screenshots makes wanna upgrade my iphone badly. i have stopped using installer and stuff so i dnno, will i lose all my email settings/ phone contacts? and to upgrade do i just use the file steve has posted for us? this all sounds risky, i guess i can wait 11 more days :D

    Zibri, how can I restore my iPhone to 1.1.4 from the latest Beta 5A345 nothing seems to work! I can restore to this firmware but cannot downgrade...

    what's my experience to hack mine for two weeks. it's awesome. but somehow it causes some problems. I hate to restore, reinstall it again. plus, I just return to original setting, and wait for 2.0 firmware. no more hacking. it's sick. I am sorry to say that. but app store will solve all of problems.

    To ERK: I had the same problem. Downgrade to 1.1.3 first. From there, update (not restore) to 1.1.4. After that, you can use ziphone to unlock, activate and jailbreak.

    Well, got 1.1.4 reinstalled finally!

    However the new baseband is 04.05.04 and cannot be unlocked and non of the existing unlockers will revert to a previous version.

    So, until a working unlocker comes out - dont even try it.

    Forcing 2.0 firmware into DFU mode I found real trial and error, and even when finally done I could only restore back to 1.1.4 using iTunes 7.6.3bf (mac and pc links on TPB) and running it in StorActivationMode, then I had to force the phone out of recovery mode.

    However, even though the phone is now 'working' the baseband is set to 04.05.04_G and no current hacks can unlock this, so therefore you wont have and signal, just a glorified iPod.

    Hopefully someone will release an update that will unlock this baseband soon, as I (and many others) are now without a phone.

    I have succeeded to restore it to 1.1.4 but it is still in recovery mode and i cant get it out of recovery mode NEED HELP BY THE WAY NOW I AM GETING AT THE END OF RESTORE PROCES TO 1.1.4 AN EROR CALLED 1015 BUT IT IS ON 1.1.4 so help please i have done it i am on 1.1.4 but still i cant get out from recovery mode- by the way how i done it - wile i was truing to restore it i have pressed power and hold button until power went down then i realized the power button but held down the home button while holding the home button i have connected and disconected the usb cable from iphone then suddenly a white screen appeared and i pressed the restore button to 1.1.4 and it begun to instal it as i told at the end of restore proces we get the error 1015 and i cant get out from recovery mode that is all Please Help!!!

    here is how I restore from 5a345 beta8.
    1. Turn the iPhone ON
    2. CONNECT it to the dock
    3. Make sure iTunes is open so you'll know when it enters DFU mode
    4. HOLD the Power/Sleep-Wake button AND the Home button for 10 seconds
    5. RELEASE only the Power/Sleep-Wake button and continue to hold the Home button
    6. WAIT until iTunes recognizes the phone in DFU Restore mode (in Windows a bubble pops up saying it recognized new hardware "DFU Mode" or something to that effect)


    The last step may take SOME TIME, like, say, even 60 seconds or so. The screen should be OFF (black), if you see the "Connect to iTunes" logo, START OVER. It may take a few tries to do the steps just right, just reboot (hold both Power/Sleep-Wake AND Home until the Apple logo appears and the phone turns back on) then try again. once on DFU mode, try to restore to 1.3 or 1.4 of course using the shift key, that way you could pick your firmware, after that you may get an error from itunes, dont worry just use a tool called ZiPhoneGUI - patched by kIREmK......... and this will downgrade your baseband and then do a regular restore with itunes, then use zhipone to jailbreake. sorry for my english.

    Ok i have news for you I do not know how but i tried enter in normal mode option on ziphone and it succeed i am surprised because i tried it a few times before it didn't work but know i have done it i am out of recovery mode on 1.1.4 iphone i have jailbrokened with ziphone i just need to erase my base band from 2.0 beta 8 and i will true to do it -and hopefully succeed Zibri i am looking forward to yours new ziphone because IT IS THE BEST!!!!

    so, I went to www.ziphone.org and clicked "Click here to Download ZiPhone (Main)" about a million times and it just ends up in www.ziphone.org. The one time that it did go to to another page when I clicked the picture for the windows download it leads me back to your main page... with no downloads.

    Now after doing this repeatedly for about FOUR HOURS I've decided that cursing God won't help me and neither will stupid YouTube. So, I am asking you for help. I tried the irc.ziphone.org page but it lead me to an error page. So I ask you to message me back. Someday. Hopefully before I throw my iTouch at a semi truck.

    How an earth I am gonna get my iPhone to DFU properly. I mean iFuntastic and Pawnage both claim, that my iPhone is in DFU, but iPhone says:"An iPod has been detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."

    I have a question about the community.

    iPhone is running OSX mobile, why don't crack it and give it free to install anything provided by the community or just create a new installer version running on the computer (Windows, mac and linux)for homebrew application ?

    If firmware 2.0 is not necessary and don't give bug corrections, i will stay on 1.1.4, i like this community and hate Apple decisions, maybe one day a new BSD will running on this fabulous object...

    zibri, irev says that will be IMPOSSIBLE to unlock/jailbrake iphone 3G with 2.0 firmware...
    he says that Chip ARM 1176JZF has bult in Trusted Computing capabilites...
    in few words he tell that jailbreak is not possible because there is a File Alteration Monitor that doesn't allow turning Read and Write OSX partitions.
    What do u think about those news?

    As long as I will be able to keep my U.S. imported iPhone unlocked, I do not care to much for the installer. Since I am sure there will be a lot if not more useful applications in the app store.

    Will it be possible to keep an unlocked 1st generation iPhone unlocked and still update to 2.0? That is the question for me!

    Regarding Bro's comment about the (ARM 1176JZF chipset). This was the chipset of the original iphone. It has always been there. It just has been inactive (they haven't been using it). I have always suggested that things would get a lot tougher once they do this. This wouldn't make it impossible. Just really difficult especially since there hasn't been a lot of material published on breaking TrustZone. However, as everything goes, if there is a will there is a way. There are numerous papers published on how to exploit TPMs. ARM is no different. If ARM Trustzone becomes a problem, I would be more than happy to jump on board and provide wtvr I can. It would be awesome to crack hardware protection :D. *cheers to Zibri and all his amazing work.

And I don't have the january update so that I can "press and hold" to delete an icon. I have your blog on bookmark in safari, so I don't need the icon.. How can I delete icons without the "jiggle" function..?

    david pogue reports that the GPS antenna is too small for it to be good enough for real time stuff, like navi apps! this would make the bluetooth stack for GPS mouse even more important, for the old and new iphone!!!

    I am waiting for the new iPhone to arrive on the 11th (already reserved and sure to receive it). Now..
    I am selling my original iPhone.

    I currently have 1.1.4 unlocked and jailbroken with ZiPhone. I would like to know from you guys how to install 2.0 and unlock it (not jailbreak, I don't care) on the original iPhone.

    I will wait for the official release of iTunes 7.7 and iPhone 2.0 just to be on the safe side (and not end up with a mess installing beta version of these programs).

    Could someone please tell me how to proceed?

    Do I have to revert to the "original" version of 1.1.4 (through a restore with shift key) before upgrading and then run ZiPhone, or can I download 2.0 from the internet and "restore" my iPhone directly with this version and then run ZiPhone?

    I think many persons will be in my same situation, so any help is greatly appreciated.

    I'm a bit confused about the whole 2.0 thin and Jailbroken Ipods/Iphones. If and when Zibri or the community release the Jailbroken 2.0 Firmware , will that mean we can use both installer and App store on the jailbroken ipod touch. Also is it ok to upgrade to the new Itunes or do not upgrade at all on Friday.

    Hey Zibri. I love your work - I have an iPhone 2g that I want to upgrade to 2.0 and then just unlock.

    The installer community has been good to us, but let's face it a lot of those apps crash, hog resources, and are one by one no longer becoming free anyway. I embrace the App Store with open arms.

    So the real question is are you going to release unlock for 2.0 firmware or not? I think 50% of us don't care less about jailbreak anymore, we just want unlock. Call us sheep :)

    I agree with rustys post above, my iphone is jailbroken and has installer but I have never installed anything mainly because most of them aren't good or they end up messing the phone up. I just want an unlock program for 2.0 :-)

    Can someone help. I have an unlocked 1.1.4 and was working perfectly until yesterday when I stupidly accepted 2.0 upgrade from itunes. Phone was dead.

    I have gone through many steps largely using Ziphone and have now got to the point where the phone comes on, I can access Wifi etc.. but no phone network. I have the following details:

    version 1.1.3 (4A93)
    Model MA712LL
    Modem Firmware 04.05.04_G

    I have attempted Reset Network, Reset All etc...... and have just done a Ziphone - e, Ziphone -D, 1.1.3 and have the same problem

    Hi Zibri & everyone.

    Ok so I have the IPOD TOUCH, and i downloaded the stupid 2.0 upgrade and after that I came here and saw your post saying not to and now I am doomed. I have tried downgrading my Itunes back to 7.5 but after I reinstall it and try to open it says that it cant read my library.Xx ( not sure what the extenetion was on the end of library just an example.) So I just installed the newer version again. How can I get itunes to read my itunes libray and how to get my Ipod touch back on 1.1.4. The newer version is nice with all the apps but I miss beaing able to change all my icons, the background color and everything else. If there is going to be a new hack to jailbreak into the new 2.0 version can I have it please if it would be easir for me to do it that way. Anyone please help me.

    I upgraded to 2.0 seeing how ziphone has rolled with all of the past upgrades and now i read "dont upgrade". Plz don't let us down ziphone... help us crack 2.0 as well, we need our freedom and all of the BETTER third party software that apple does not provide. thank you and we'll be waiting.

    although you asked me not to beg you to release the new ziphone , i will. that is because a lately upraded my iphone 1.1.4. to 1.2 and itunes says that my current sim card isn't accepted(i am from romania). i have used ziphone to upgrade my iphone to 1.1.4. but now i have no alternatives. i have to wait , and i am sure you are going to do a great job.

    I followed your instructions on uninstalling iTunes 7.7 and installing 7.5, but now after putting my iTouch in DFU mode, my iTunes can't read it. The error reads "The file"iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created bu a newer version of iTunes." What should I do?

    Hi zibri i did what you told me NOT to do . i upgraded my iphone and now i am stuck . very very stupid of me. please help me i have managed to downgrade the phone and i have ziphone installed but i have a problem i dont have phone service. the tmobile chip i was using before does not get detected in the iphone. i have installer workiing like a charm but like you said its only a paper weight for me. plesae tell me what to do ? thanks waiting impatiently

    I try de upgrade 2.0 but yeah It´s not good for anyone because you miss the Instal icon!! So, I donwngrade it to 1.1.4 and Jailbrake using ZiPhone :D

    I need the MAIL and MAPS icons working, does anyone know an alternate programs or should I wait until Zibri realease the 2.0 Jailbreake...

    Ok just like most others out here I too stupidly upgraded to 2.0 thinking all will be well cuz my phone was already activated with ziphone! So its been 24 hours now and I have tried everything but still cant get the phone back to 1.1.4. i even downgraded itunes to 7.5 and tried to upload the 1.1.4 firmware but get an error "20" on itunes. in the process i even lost my playlist! lol

    dont know if you're seeing this but help!
